Christian Island Resident Arrested

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment. have concluded another vehicle theft investigation in the Town of Midland with a Christian Island resident being charged.

On October 10, 2024 at approximately 10:28 p.m. the OPP Communication Centre received a report of a vehicle being stolen from in front of a Dominion Street business. Shortly after, an officer on patrol noted the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Olive and Elizabeth Streets and made an arrest of the lone driver. After gaining control of the driver the officer entered into an impaired driving investigation which required the assistance of an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.

As a result of these investigations Tyler Scott Sylvester 31 years has been charged criminally and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing on the following charges.

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.
