Christian Island Resident Charged By OPP After Theft Investigation

A report of an individual attempting to enter a parked vehicle to the OPP Communication Centre at approximately 12:12 a.m. March 2, 2024, by a Fox Street, Penetanguishene resident caused members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment to patrol the area for a suspect. Shortly afterwards, a Peel Street resident flagged down the officers as they had encountered and apprehended an individual on their property who was attempting to enter vehicles.

Officers arrested at the scene a person known to them as Tyler SYLVESTER 30-years-old of Christian Island and after investigation the following criminal charges were laid.

  • Trespassing at Night (two counts)
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada (two counts)
  • Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle

and further was arrested on an outstanding warrant for an Anishinabek Police Service Investigation.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
