The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one youth in an early morning home invasion where personal items and vehicles were stolen.
On September 24, 2024, shortly after 2:00 a.m., officers from Orillia OPP were called to a home in the area of Westmount Drive and Arthur Street in the City of Orillia for reports of a home invasion. Police were advised multiple armed suspects had entered the victim’s home. The suspects fled with personal items and the victim’s vehicle, prior to police arrival.
Orillia OPP with assistance from Barrie Police Service, South Simcoe Police Service, York Region Police Service and Toronto Police Service, located the victims stolen vehicle along with a second stolen vehicle headed southbound on Highway 11 near Highway 93, in the Township of Oro-Medonte. Officers successfully and safely brought one suspect vehicle to a stop, arresting the sole occupant, a male driver. The victim’s vehicle was later located abandoned in the City of Toronto.
The investigation is on going with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and Orillia OPP Major Crime Unit.
As a result of this investigation, a 17-year-old young person, who’s identity is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with the following offences:
· Disguise with intent
· Theft of Motor Vehicle
· Pointing a firearm (2 counts)
· Assault with a weapon
· Break, enter a dwelling
· Possession of property obtained by Crime Over $5000
· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
· Robbery using Firearm
The young person has been held in custody.
