On July 22, 2026, at approximately 7:09 a.m., officers responded to reports of a possible impaired driver in the area of Glenarm Road and Killarney Bay Road, Fenelon Township. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving-related offences.

Bryce Studiman, 30-year-old of Ramara Township, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date.

As a result of the charge, the driver received an immediate 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The vehicle was removed from the scene by a tow operator and held at an authorized impound facility in accordance with provincial impaired driving legislation.

Dr. Mehdi Dadashi, an experienced family physician with 20 years of clinical experience in family medicine and emergency care, will begin serving the Ramara community this fall. Dr. Dadashi brings 20 years of clinical experience in family medicine and emergency care. Throughout his career, he has provided comprehensive primary care to patients of all ages, including chronic disease management, preventive care, health promotion, and urgent medical care. He has also worked extensively in hospital and emergency settings managing acute and complex medical conditions. In addition to joining the Ramara Medical Centre, Dr. Dadashi will provide services at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

The Fire Prevention Officer position was approved by Council as part of the Township’s 2026 Budget and leads public education, fire prevention, and community risk reduction initiatives.

Dr. Anoushka Mohammadiankhorasani (Dr. Mo), a primary care physician, will begin serving the community starting in July, with a new medical practice located at the Ramara Medical Centre in Brechin. This marks a significant milestone in improving access to local primary health care in Ramara.

As an underserved rural municipality, many Ramara residents have faced challenges accessing primary care close to home, often travelling outside the community, with a significant number of individuals and families currently without a regular primary care provider.

Dr. Mo will be providing inpatient and emergency care at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in addition to her family practice in Ramara.

The specialized prop, made possible through the generosity of Amrize and the fabrication work of Torque Field Service, will support critical forcible entry training required for firefighter certification and annual refresher exercises.

“Strong community partnerships like this directly support the safety and readiness of our firefighters,” said Mayor Basil Clarke. “We are thankful to Amrize and Torque Field Service for their generosity and commitment to helping protect our community.”

The custom-built prop replicates the process of forcing entry into a structure during fire suppression, a critical skill that firefighters must demonstrate as part of their certification and ongoing annual refresher training.

If purchased directly from a vendor, the door prop would have cost approximately $12,000. Instead, Amrize donated the steel required for the build, along with welding supplies and paint. Torque Field Service contributed approximately 70 hours to fabricate the unit.

Previously, Ramara Fire & Rescue crews had to borrow a training prop and either travel to another location or transport the equipment using a loader and trailer. Having a dedicated in-house prop will make training more efficient, accessible, and cost-effective.

“This new training asset will significantly improve our ability to deliver consistent, hands-on training,” said Tony Stong, Ramara Fire Chief. “Forcible entry is a fundamental firefighting skill, and having our own prop ensures our firefighters can maintain proficiency year after year.”

On August 5, 2025 at 6:45 p.m. Bracebridge OPP officers along with Muskoka Paramedic Services and Gravenhurst Fire Department, responded to 9-1-1 calls from members of the public about a two vehicle collision that occurred on Muskoka Road 169 near Narrows Road in Gravenhurst. The collision claimed two lives, that of a 50-year-old Gravenhurst man and a 61-year-old Muskoka Lakes Township man.

Investigations of this nature are complex and time consuming and on January 12, 2026, police arrested and charged 35-year-old Robyn Tonello, of Ramara Twp, with:

–      Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death X 2

–      Operation while Impaired- Over 80.

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on January 14, 2026 for a bail hearing.

Whether through donations, volunteer time or supporting local initiatives, this generosity makes a meaningful difference for Ramara families in need.”

The Township would like to recognize the community partners whose efforts and generosity played a significant role in the campaign’s success, including the Mara-Brechin Legion, Susan Potalivo, the Brechin & District Lions Club, the Ramara Firefighters Association, Ramara Fire and Rescue Services and the Ramara Township Public Library.

The Township of Ramara received 150 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through Safe Community Project Zero, a public education campaign with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC) that will provide more than 14,200 alarms to residents in 75 communities across Ontario.

This year, Enbridge Gas invested $450,000 in Safe Community Project Zero, and over the past 17 years, the program has provided more than 115,000 alarms to Ontario fire departments.

When properly installed and maintained, combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms help provide the early warning to safely escape from a house fire or carbon monoxide exposure. Carbon monoxide is a toxic, odourless gas that is a by-product of incomplete combustion of many types of common fuels.

“Carbon monoxide alarms play a vital role as a second line of defence against this invisible threat, often called ‘the silent killerʼ,” said Andrew Craig, Supervisor Operations, Enbridge Gas. “Proper maintenance of fuel-burning appliances is the most effective way to prevent carbon monoxide exposure. We’re proud to support our communities by raising awareness and helping Ontarians take simple, proactive steps to stay safe in their homes.”

“Each day, fire departments focus their efforts on educating the public about the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their home. The objective of Safe Community Project Zero, is to deliver these alarms to areas where they are needed most,” said Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the FMPFSC. “It is a program that not only helps fire departments raise awareness about the legal requirement to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms installed in all Ontario homes, but also reinforces the critical role they play in saving lives.”
