Stay Fire Safe This Holiday Season By Putting Safety At The Top Of Your List

0

Bracebridge Fire encourages everyone to stay fire safe this holiday season by putting safety at the top of their lists.

  • Water fresh trees daily and keep them away from heat sources such as furnace vents, space heaters and candles;
  • Test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms prior to family gatherings for the safety of yourself and your guests;
  • Use lights that are properly rated for indoor or outdoor use when decorating and check for worn or damaged cords. Make sure extension cords are not overloaded and discard any that are frayed or damaged;
  • Keep decorations away from candles, fireplaces, and portable heaters;
  • Prepare and practice your home escape plan with everyone in your home. Ensure you have two ways out of every room and make sure everyone, including guests, are aware;
  • Look while you cook. Cooking fires are the primary cause of home fires, especially during the holidays when there are so many distractions. Don’t leave the stove unattended and be alert when cooking.
