Beverley Jackson of Oro-Medonte was shocked to find out that she won the Soldiers’ 50/50 jackpot just days before her 80th birthday.

“Are you serious?”, Jackson exclaimed when she heard the news. “You won’t believe this; I turn 80 on Monday and we’re planning a cruise this month to celebrate!”

After learning she had won the $22,682 April grand prize, Jackson immediately called her husband, Bill, to tell him their trip was now paid for.

As a philanthropist and former nurse, Jackson is proud to support Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH). She began donating in 2020 after her husband, Bill, experienced bilateral brain bleed at home. Beverly and Bill credit OSMH staff for finding the bleed and connecting him with a clinic in London, ON.

Bill was sent to London that evening and made a full recovery. He has since visited OSMH for a couple of health reasons and was always impressed with his experience and the healthcare he was provided.

“Every time it’s been super”, Bill Jackson said. “I was really well looked after, and the Emergency Department is great.”

Beverley and Bill are looking forward to celebrating their win together on a much-anticipated cruise to Norway. The couple says they will continue to purchase Soldiers’ 50/50 tickets to support a cause that’s so important to them.

The May Soldiers’ 50/50 Raffle is already underway with a special ticket bundle to celebrate 115 years of OSMH! Two $1,500 Early Bird Draws will take place on May 11 and May 25 and the grand prize draw will take place on Friday, May 31. With a guaranteed pot of $5,000 and ticket bundles starting at just $10, it’s a fun way to support your local hospital and gives you the chance to win big.

Soldiers’ 50/50 raffle is managed by the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation and works to generate funding for areas of emerging need within Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
