The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is issuing a correction to a media release distributed on August 10, 2026, regarding an assault investigation at the waterfront. The original release incorrectly identified the body of water involved in the incident as Lake Simcoe. The victim was pushed into Lake Couchiching, not Lake Simcoe.
On Sunday, August 9th, 2026, just after 5:20 p.m., several members of the Orillia OPP were dispatched to a report of a disturbance on Lightfoot Drive near Mississaga Street East in the City of Orillia. Information provided from witnesses indicated there had been a fight between two parties, resulting in one of the parties being pushed into the water of Lake Couchiching. Bystanders and members of the Orillia Fire Department assisted in rescuing the victim from the water where first aid was administered. The male victim was transported to a local area hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
The accused was located by officers on scene and taken into custody after a foot pursuit.
As a result of the investigation, Kristy Lacroiz, 47-years old of Orillia, has been charged with the following:
- Aggravated Assault
- Resist Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order – two counts
The accused was held in custody on August 10th, 2026, to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia for a bail hearing.
