Driver Charged With Impaired And Stunt Driving On County Road 93

Keeping observation of the speed of northbound traffic on Simcoe County Road 93, Midland near 1:30 a.m. April 29, 2023 by a member of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP paid off with the removal of a stunt driver which then led to a impaired driving investigation.

The officer noted a vehicle that appeared to be travelling well above the posted 60km/h zone and confirmed that the vehicle was exceeding the posted limit in excess of 40km/h.

The vehicle was safely stopped and after speaking with the driver, the officer entered into a drinking and driving investigation which led to a continued investigation at the Detachment and the involved vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded.

As a result of this investigation, Scott William Hooper 38 years of Penetanguishene has been charged with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Stunt Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released from police custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on May 18, 2023. As well, the accused faces a 90 day drivers licence suspensions as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines and a 14 day vehicle impound.

Over the weekend, officers conducted the RIDE program at 13 random locations checking for impaired drivers in an effort to increase road safety here in North Simcoe.
