The City of Orillia is inviting feedback from residents and visitors by kicking off an update to its five-year Waste Minimization Plan. Consultation runs from February 13 to March 14, 2026, and includes an online survey and two separate public open house sessions. Community input will help shape strategies for waste reduction, recycling and education programs.
“Reducing waste and using our resources more wisely is essential to building a sustainable and climate-resilient community,” said Don McIsaac, Mayor of Orillia. “This plan will help guide our actions over the next five years, and we welcome local voices as we create solutions that work for Orillia now and into the future.”
How residents can participate

In-person Open Houses – attend one of two convenient drop-in style sessions to see display boards and speak directly with City staff, Orillia Waste Management Advisory Committee members, and the City’s consultant.
- Feb. 25, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Orillia Recreation Centre
- March 7, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Orillia Public Library
Following the consultation period and review of public feedback, the updated Waste Minimization Plan is expected to be provided to Council later this spring, then submitted to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP).
