ORILLIA, ONTARIO — 32-year-old Tyson Altvater, a resident of Orillia, has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death following an extended investigation by the Central Region’s Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) unit, according to an OPP press release.
The charges stem from a serious car accident on June 11, 2024, along Highway 12 near Concession Road 11 in Ramara Township. OPP confirmed the victim, A 92-year-old man from Ramara Township, succumbed to his injuries two days later, on June 13.
The accident involved a violent collision between two vehicles. According to the OPP, one vehicle ended up in a ditch and caught fire, while the other remained on the roadway with its occupants trapped inside.
Emergency crews from the Rama Police Service, Simcoe County Paramedics, and Ramara Fire Department worked together to rescue all individuals from the vehicles. Two people were rushed to a local hospital, and one person, who sustained severe injuries, was airlifted to a trauma center in Toronto.
The highway remained closed for several hours after the accident as police conducted their investigation, which concluded in October 2024.
