Waterfront At Kirby’s Beach Park Now Open

0

The beach and waterfront at Kirby’s Beach Park is open to the public.

After a report of sewing needles being found in the water on May 31, Town of Bracebridge Public Works crews closed the beach and began an extensive inspection of the area which included six complete in-water grid searches and beach raking over the course of 20 hours. The beach and waterfront areas are safe for use, however visitors to the beach are asked to use caution and be aware of their surroundings. With the continuous movement of sand and water, debris can travel.

Public Works will be increasing site inspection and maintenance frequency at all beach locations which includes beach raking, cleaning and garbage collection. Crews will now be incorporating in-water beach maintenance into the site inspections moving forward.

Bowyer’s Beach Park Closure
As a result of the incident at Kirby’s Beach Park, staff reviewed Bowyer’s Beach Park and unfortunately found sewing needles at the end of the dock. The beachfront and water access at Bowyer’s Beach Park will be closed until further notice for a thorough investigation. The washroom facilities and picnic tables will remain open.

The Town takes community safety seriously. Bracebridge OPP Detachment is aware of these incidents and will be increasing patrols of the areas.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings at all times and report anything that seems suspicious.
