The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a reported house fire shortly before 1p.m., on Highway 35 in Dwight Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, crews from Station two and Station three encountered thick smoke inside the two-storey home. The fire was quickly located and extinguished by fire crews.
There were no occupants home at the time and employees from adjacent businesses had witnessed the smoke and called 911. One employee entered the structure and removed two dogs that were inside. Unfortunately, a third dog had perished in the fire.
Fire damage was limited to the room of origin and the rest of the home suffered smoke and heat damage. Although the area of origin has been determined, the investigation into the cause and circumstances are still under investigation.
Damage is estimated at $400,000. There were no injuries reported.
