Any person who is 16 years or older may apply for driver’s licence in Ontario. This is a time to practice driving and gain experience. For most people, the two-step process called ‘graduated licensing’ takes about 20 months to finish.

As a new driver (G1 or G2) there are many rules to follow to safely gain the experience required to operate a motor vehicle on Ontario roads. All drivers in Ontario who are under the age of 21 must have a ZERO blood alcohol content and G2 drivers may only carry as many occupants as there are seatbelts. There are several additional rules that young drivers must follow, they can be found at https://www.ontario.ca.
