On July 27, 2024, around 6:00 a.m., Orillia OPP and Orillia Fire responded to a fire outside an Oxford St residence. Police were able to obtain surveillance footage of a motorized scooter being approached by a male party and lit it on fire. The male proceeded to flee the area on foot.

Officers from the Orillia OPP, Simcoe County Paramedics and Ramara Fire responded to the collision on Ramara Rd 47 in Ramara Township at approximately 1:15 a.m. on July 26. The vehicle involved was described to be on its roof with two occupants inside. Police, Fire and Ambulance arrived on scene to assess the driver and passenger. Both parties were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and the 19-year-old male novice driver would later be airlifted to a trauma center in Toronto.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be released.

On September 8, 2023, at 7 p.m., officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP were alerted by a concerned citizen to a driver slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle in an Orillia municipal parking lot. Officers located the individual within the vehicle, where they were arrested on numerous impaired related offences.

As a result, Katie-Jane Williams; 39-year-old, from Orillia has been subsequently charged with:

• Take motor vehicle without consent
• Failure or refusal to comply with a demand
• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges on October 17, 2023.

On July 21, 2023, just after midnight, officers from Orillia OPP responded to an area Provincial Park, in Ramara Township for reports of a male driving while intoxicated. Officers patrolled the area and located a vehicle matching the description and were led to an impaired operation driving investigation.

As a result, Thomas Trevayne, 30-year-old, from Whitby has been charged with:

• Operation while impaired-alcohol
• Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in August 2023. As a result of these charges, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

On March 30, 2023, shortly before 12:30 p.m. police were dispatched to a call for an unwanted person at a residence on West St. North in Orillia. Upon police arrival, two individual who refused to leave the residence were placed under arrest for Unlawfully in a Dwelling House. Upon further investigation police learned that the female suspect was wanted on warrant and the 15-year-old male was in possession of drugs and large amounts of Canadian currency.

A 15-year-old young person, who’s identity is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. has been charged with;

·       YPC Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·       YPC Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin)

·       YPC Poss of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $ 5000 – in Canada

·       YPC Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

·       YPC Unlawfully in Dwelling House

Katie Lee Brittain, 28 years of age, of Orillia has been charged with;

·       Adult Fail to Comply with Probation X 2

·       Adult Unlawfully in Dwelling House

·       Adult Possessing Counterfeit Money – have in custody

·       Adult Poss of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada

·       Adult Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

·       Adult Failure to attend court after having appeared

·       Adult Poss of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order

·       Adult Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·       Adult Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin)

Both accused parties were held for a Bail hearing.

On February 27, 2022, shortly after 11 p.m., police responded to a call where a male and female had knocked on a residence door looking for assistance. During the conversation, the female suspect assaulted the resident. Both suspects then fled in an unknown vehicle in an unknown direction.

The Orillia OPP received a report from a concerned member of the public shortly before 2 p.m. that a vehicle was driving erratically on Monck Road in the Township of Ramara. The person who notified police provided a vehicle description and the OPP were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 12. After conducting a traffic stop, the police arrested 29-year-old Anthony Cerisano of Etobicoke and charged him with operation while impaired by alcohol and failure to comply with demand. Cerisano was released on a Form 10 Undertaking and is set to appear in court in Orillia on Aug. 25.

“Police often rely on members of the public to help keep our roads safe,” said a statement from the OPP. “Whether it is driving safely, educating loved ones or in this case reporting a suspected impaired driver, keeping our highways, trails and waterways safe for everyone to enjoy is the responsibility of all.”
