Presented by Casino Rama Resort, Concert for Care featured one of Canada’s most celebrated rock bands, The Trews, with special guest Bleeker. The hometown connection made the evening even more meaningful, as Orillia’s own Bleeker took the stage in front of a crowd that included many friends, family members, and local supporters.

The high-energy evening culminated with The Trews, who connected with fans throughout their performance, even venturing into the crowd for an up close and personal interaction.

More importantly, the inaugural event brought the community together around care, raising more than $225,000 and counting towards building a healthier, more integrated future for healthcare in the community.

Newly appointed OSMH President and CEO Mary Silverthorn and OSMH Foundation President and CEO Ian Mishkel took the stage together during the evening to thank concertgoers for supporting Soldiers’ Memorial. Their remarks recognized Concert for Care as both a celebration of music, community, and the work underway that supports the hospital today and the planning of the new regional hospital for tomorrow.

Concert for Care also shone a spotlight on one of the simplest ways people can impact healthcare close to home: monthly giving.

Monthly donations provide predictable support that allows OSMH to plan ahead, respond to current needs, and invest in the care patients and families depend on. Even a modest amount each month adds up greatly over time.

And right now, new monthly donors can multiply their giving.

Electronic Distributors International (EDI), a sponsor of Concert for Care, has generously committed $1,000 for every new monthly donor, up to a total of $100,000. The opportunity continues beyond Concert for Care until the full $100,000 commitment has been leveraged.

“It takes a community to care for a community, and we all have a different role to play,” said Norman Yorke, Managing Partner, EDI Inc. “Every new donor strengthens OSMH’s ability to provide quality care. If our contribution inspires more people to become monthly donors, together, our collective efforts can make a meaningful difference.”

The OSMH Foundation is encouraging the community to take advantage of EDI’s extraordinary generosity while the matching funds remain available. Become a monthly donor HERE.

For music fans there is still another way to support OSMH following the concert.

Bleeker has donated a Squier Stratocaster played by the band’s Tim Kehoe, an Orillia local, in the music video for “Something on You.” The guitar is being offered through an online auction, in support of the OSMH Foundation, with bidding open until October 30.

Concert for Care also featured a special limited-time 50/50 draw held in conjunction with the event. Ticket sales closed during the concert, with the winner announced at intermission, as planned in the evening’s program.

The winning ticket belonged to Jennifer Walter of Orillia.

The OSMH Foundation extends its sincere thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket, donated, volunteered, sponsored the event or helped make the inaugural Concert for Care possible.

“What made Concert for Care so special was seeing our community come together for a great night while supporting something that matters to us all,” said Ian Mishkel, President and CEO of the OSMH Foundation. “Every ticket, every donation and every new monthly donor strengthens care for patients and families across our region. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who made our first Concert for Care such a success.”

Special thanks to presenting sponsor Casino Rama Resort, which also hosted the event, and to event sponsors Electronic Distributors International (EDI), Assante Wealth Management, EcoPoly / Polyethics Industries Inc., Rock 95 and Walker Wealth Management.

The music may have stopped for the night, but the opportunity to make a difference continues. By becoming a monthly donor, community members can provide reliable support for healthcare today while building a stronger healthcare future for patients, families and generations to come.

Joining the tour is special guest Mary Frances, the world-renowned fiddler, pianist and dancer.

“Loves a Paddy’s Month Run!” says Doyle. “The mighty Mary Frances joins me and the Beautiful Beautiful Band for a couple of weeks through Ontario in March. What a time it’s gonna be!”

Doyle is touring in support of his six-song EP, Already Dancing, released earlier this year. Featuring five original songs and Doyle’s version of the 1986 Spirit of the West classic “The Crawl” (with the band’s legendary co-founder Geoffrey Kelly on whistle and vocals), Already Dancing took shape in: St. John’s, Newfoundland; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, PEI; and Santa Monica, California, before Doyle brought the whole team together at the National Music Centre in Calgary to finish it off.

Ahead of the tour, Doyle returns to Toronto this winter as Tell Tale Harbour returns to the Royal Alexandra Theatre from December 22 to January 24. Doyle stars in and co-wrote the smash-hit musical comedy, which followed its Charlottetown premiere with a lengthy sell-out Toronto run in 2025.

Working with longtime producer Chad Irschick, Aglukark brought “For You” to life alongside the Inuksuk Drum Dancers from Nunavut, Sweleyén, also known as Julianne Peters, of the Tsq’éscen’ First Nation in Secwepemcúl’ecw, and received special choral guidance from Deantha Edmunds, an Inuk classical singer and composer from Newfoundland and Labrador. The result is a song built from voices across several Indigenous nations, brought together around a single, simple idea, one Aglukark first put into words as a private poem before it became something meant to be shared.

Aglukark credits the Ontario Arts Council for making the project possible, along with Mary Piercey-Lewis, whose commitment to the recording spanned sessions in both Toronto and Iqaluit, Nunavut. In keeping with the values that have long defined her work, a portion of the proceeds from “For You” will go toward The Orange Shirt Society and Aglukark’s own Arctic Rose Foundation, which supports Northern Inuit, First Nations, and Metis youth through Indigenous led arts programming.

“For You” arrives at a landmark moment in Aglukark’s career. Born in Churchill, Manitoba and raised in Arviat, she became the first Inuk artist to land a Top 40 hit in Canada with “O Siem,” the breakout single from her triple platinum 1995 album ‘This Child.’ Over more than three decades, she has released a string of acclaimed albums including ‘Arctic Rose,’ ‘Unsung Heroes,’ ‘Big Feeling,’ ‘Blood Red Earth’ and 2022’s ‘The Crossing,’ earning three Juno Awards along the way, an Officer of the Order of Canada distinction in 2005, and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in 2016.

On the road, Aglukark performs with a live band featuring Mark Lalama on piano, keys and accordion, Shawn Sasynuik on drums and percussion, Stephan Berand on bass, and either Eric Treleavan or Jeff Smallwood on guitars, with the full band contributing vocals throughout the set. That band brings her indigenous folk and easy listening sound across a packed run of upcoming dates, including her 30th anniversary tour marking ‘This Child,’ the Together for Nature tour alongside Terra Lightfoot, and her holiday production, Upinnaq: A Beautiful Christmas.

With “For You,” Aglukark adds another chapter to a catalogue built on honesty, heritage, and connection, turning a private poem into a song made in community, for community.

The event will bring together survivors, caregivers, families, supporters, and community members for a day focused on hope, resilience, and connection. Participants will gather at Meridian Stage in downtown Barrie, where registration and check in will take place before the community walk begins. Following the walk, participants will return to Meridian Stage for a full live concert performance by Bif Naked. Register for the walk at: https://gildasclubsimcoemuskoka.org/event/community-is-stronger-than-cancer-day

Unlike many concerts, there is no set ticket price. Instead, attendees are encouraged to make a donation in support of Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka. Whether someone contributes $10, $100, or $10,000, every donation directly supports free cancer support programs, caregiver resources, children’s services, healthy living programs, and peer support opportunities for individuals and families affected by cancer.

Bif Naked made the following statement, “When I went through breast cancer treatment, I was incredibly grateful for the doctors, nurses, and healthcare teams who helped me through it. But what many people don’t realize is that when you leave the hospital or treatment centre, you’re still carrying a lot with you. The emotional side of cancer, the fear, the uncertainty, and the impact it has on your family and loved ones doesn’t just disappear.”

Bif continued, “That’s why organizations like Gilda’s Club are so important. They provide support, connection, understanding, and community when people need it most. No one should ever have to face cancer alone. I am honoured to be supporting Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka and their Community Against Cancer Walk on June 28, 2026. Whether you walk, fundraise, volunteer, donate, or simply come out and join us, you’re helping ensure that people affected by cancer have somewhere to turn when they need support the most. So come out, walk, fundraise and rock with me. Together, we can make sure no one faces cancer alone.”

For Lana Hana, Executive Director of Gilda’s Club, the event is about more than fundraising. “Cancer changes lives, not just for the person diagnosed, but for entire families. At Gilda’s Club, we ensure that no one affected by cancer has to face it alone by providing free support programs, resources, and meaningful connections for anyone affected. We are honoured to have Bif Naked join us for our Community Against Cancer Walk on June 28. Every step taken, every dollar raised, and every person who participates helps ensure that this support remains available, free of charge, to those who need it most.

If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out. No matter where you live or where you are in your experience with cancer, we are here to help and connect you with the care and community you deserve. Together, we can remind everyone impacted by cancer that they are never alone.”

If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out. No matter where you live, no matter where you are, we will do everything we can to help and connect you with the support you deserve.

The Community Against Cancer Walk & Concert aims not only to raise funds, but also to raise awareness of the free services available through Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka. Every year, thousands of individuals and families face the emotional, social, and practical impacts of cancer. Community support helps ensure these services remain accessible without financial barriers.
