Snowmobile Operator Issued Roadside Suspension During RIDE Check In Tiny Township

On the evening of February 6, 2026, members of the Southern Georgian Bay Snowmobile Unit conducted a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program on Marshall Road at the OFSC Trail in Tiny Township.

During the RIDE check, a snowmobile approached the officers’ location. Police signalled the operator to stop; however, he attempted to evade officers, prompting them to activate the snowmobile’s kill switch to shut the machine off. The driver then attempted to restart the snowmobile in an effort to flee, at which point officers removed the ignition key to prevent his escape.

A Screening Device demand was made, and the operator provided a breath sample resulting in an “alert.” As a result, a 53‑year‑old male from New Lowell had his driver’s licence seized and was issued a 14‑day suspension. The operator was also issued two additional charges for documentation‑related offences.

Impaired snowmobiling puts both riders and the broader trail community at risk. With the support of technologies such as in‑car and body‑worn cameras, officers are better equipped to identify unsafe operation and help keep our trail system safe. Please make responsible choices while riding to ensure Ontario’s snowmobile trails remain enjoyable for everyone.
