RVH Opens Simcoe Pod Satellite Radiation Therapy Unit

0

RVH officially opened the Simcoe Pod, RVH’s Satellite Radiation Therapy Unit, part of the Hudson Regional Cancer Program. The Simcoe Pod will ensure continuity of care for the region’s cancer patients as RVH begins the lengthy process of replacing three of four Linear Accelerators (LINACs).
Located just outside the Simcoe Entrance of the health centre, the Simcoe Pod building was the first modular radiation treatment unit in Canada, operating from 2008 until the Cancer Centre opened in 2012. The revitalized Simcoe Pod allows the Hudson Regional Cancer Program to continue meeting the needs of patients and creates an opportunity to add a permanent, much-needed fifth LINAC.
(L to R): Melissa Mei, Director, Capacity, Access and Flow, Ontario Health Central; Dana Naylor, RVH Vice President Clinical and  Regional Vice President, Cancer Services, Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario); Kyle Malkoske, RVH Head of Medical Physics and Oncology Information System; Gail Hunt, RVH President and CEO; Barrie Mayor, Alex Nuttall; Dr, Christiaan Stevens, RVH Medical Director, Oncology; Garth Matheson, Regional Liaison – Ontario, Canadian Partnership Against Cancer; Brian Liszewski, Advisor, Radiation Therapy and Infrastructure Planning, Ontario Health; and Dr. Matt Follwell, RVH Chief of Oncology.
