RIDE Program In Midland Results In Charges For Two Drivers

Two drivers were netted during ten area R.I.D.E. checks conducted by officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment along with officers from the OPP Central Region Traffic Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) checking over 250 vehicles between May 19-23, 2024.

On May 21, 2024 at approximately 1:10 a.m. Detachment officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Heritage Drive in the town of Midland. Officers checked a west bound SUV which had difficulty stopping for the officers when directed to do so. Upon speaking with the driver the officer made an arrest and entered into an impaired driving investigation. The investigation was continued at the Detachment with the assistance of a Drug Recognition officer (DRE)

As a result of this investigation Stephanie Kiernan 34 years of Tay Township has been charged criminally with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 18, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

On May 19, 2024 at approximately 6:05 p.m. members of the OPP TIME Team were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Honey Harbour Road, Georgian Bay Township. Officers stopped a north bound silver pick up truck and spoke with the driver and two other occupants. The officer entered into a drinking and driving investigation at the scene.

As a result of this investigation Jack Swick 27 years of Tay Township has been charged criminally with the following driving offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 6, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.
