On October 23, 2025, at approximately 11:45 a.m., officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious individual believed to be carrying a weapon near a local high school in the Town of Midland.
As a precautionary measure, the school was placed in a “Hold and Secure” protocol. This safety procedure restricts movement in and out of the building while allowing staff and students to continue regular activities inside. It is designed to ensure the safety of everyone while police conduct their investigation.
An increased police presence was deployed in the area of Cook Drive and Yonge Street. Officers quickly located and identified the individual in question. No weapon was found, and it was determined that no threats had been made. The hold and secure was lifted shortly before 12:05 p.m.
The Southern Georgian Bay OPP would like to thank the public and school staff for their cooperation and vigilance. The Ontario Provincial Police remains committed to protecting our communities, upholding the law, and preserving public safety.
