The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two individuals with impaired driving within a six hour period.
On February 27, 2024, shortly after 4:50 p.m., police were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 11 in Severn Township. Upon conducting a traffic stop, the officer entered an impaired driving investigation. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported to detachment for further investigation.
As a result, Matthew Tessier, 41, of Orillia has been charged with:
- Operation while Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) (CC)
- Drive Motor Vehicle- Perform Stunt (HTA)
The accused was released on an Undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on March 19, 2024.
On February 27, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers were conducting RIDE in the City of Orillia. Officers determined the driver of a motor vehicle was displaying signs of alcohol consumption and was subsequently arrested.
As a result, Vasim SHANGARAEV, 37, of Orillia has been charged with:
- Operation while Impaired
- Operation while Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
- Novice Driver- BAC above zero
- Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
- Having Care or Control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor (LLCA)
The accused was released on an Undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on March 19, 2024.
Both drivers have been issued Administrative Drivers Licence Suspensions and their vehicles impounded in accordance with their respective charges.
