Orillia OPP Arrests Impaired Driver In Stolen Vehicle

Orillia OPP have arrested and charged a driver with numerous offences including impaired driving and theft of a motor vehicle in Ramara.

On July 11, 2021, shortly after 6:30 a.m., police received a call for a suspicious male, who appeared intoxicated, entering parked vehicles and knocking on doors near Sebright. A description of the male was provided and, as officers began patrolling the area, they observed a male who matched the description pulling out of a driveway in a vehicle. A traffic stop was attempted but the driver fled at a high rate of speed, then lost control and entered a ditch. Officers arrested the male, began an impaired driving investigation and learned that the vehicle had been stolen.

As a result, Larry Randell, age 40, of Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Theft over $5000 of a motor vehicle
  • Dangerous operation
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused was held for a bail hearing on July 12, 2021, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.
