OPP Marine Units Checking For Booze And Life Jackets

0

The Southern Georgian Bay OPP marine unit were on the water over the June 5-8, 2021 period checking 45 vessels for equipment and impaired driving violations with special attention towards lifejacket and liquor violations as the 2021 boating season gets going. Officers cited three people for not having enough lifejackets for everyone aboard and four people for liquor related offences. Eight operators were cited for failing to have equipment and or speed related offences.

Three operators who had been drinking were given the Roadside Screening Device (ASD) with one operator losing his Ontario Drivers Licence with a three day suspension after registering a “Warn” result.

With the number of new boating enthusiasts over the last few years, officers will be trying to educate operators about Canadian-approved lifejacket or personal floatation device (PFD)‘s and to be cold water aware while boating on Georgian Bay and the surrounding waterways this spring.

This summer, lets be safe on the water and if you see a possible impaired operator “Make the Call” and dial 911
