Details are limited but here is what we know.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following an arrest in the City of Orillia.
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, shortly after 6:45 p.m., officers from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident and arrested an individual, who was subsequently transported to the Orillia Detachment.
While in custody, the individual went into medical distress and was later pronounced deceased.
The OPP notified the SIU, which invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information.
