Submitted by Gravenhurst High School robotics team Gryphtech Robotics
On the last weekend in March, the Gravenhurst High School robotics team Gryphtech Robotics travelled up to North Bay to compete in the FIRST Robotics Canada competition, winning the event alongside Hoya Robotics from Huntsville High School and Ice Cubed Robotics from North Bay.
The GHS Gryphtech Robotics team was honoured to have been chosen by alliance captain Huntsville Hoyas and the hosting team North Bay Ice Cubed Robotics. The three joined forces together to win the double-elimination playoff bracket and emerge as the champions. Gryphtech Robotics wishes both of these teams the best of luck, as they all independently travel down to Hamilton in order to compete with and against each other, as well as dozens of other teams all across Ontario, in the FIRST Robotics Provincial Championship from April 5 to 8.
The FIRST Robotics competitions see teams building, designing and manufacturing robots to compete with and against each other. Alliances are composed of three individual teams competing together to score as many game pieces as possible.
It takes months to build these robots up to competition standards and is an excellent opportunity for students to learn and grow in STEM fields, as well as with each other. Gryphtech Robotics is extremely grateful to its adult mentors for all the hard work they put in to help the team flourish, as well as to the gracious sponsors who make it all possible.
The team is looking for more sponsors to help pay for robot parts as well as food, transportation and accommodation for the students travelling across Ontario to compete in these events. Anyone looking to donate to the team, or become a yearly sponsor, should email 6864robotics@gmail.com for more information.
