Impaired Driving Investigation In Midland Leads To Drug Charges

Observations by a community member of two persons appearing to be unconscious in a vehicle behind the Mountain View Mall, Midland resulted in the dispatch of officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at approximately 2:28 p.m. October 11, 2024.

Attending officers located the suspect vehicle and awoke the two occupants and upon speaking with the driver entered into an impaired driving investigation. Scene investigation resulted in the seizure of a quantity of drugs believed the be fentanyl.

As a result of these investigations the driver Russell Hamley 66 years of Penetanguishene has been charged criminally with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 31, 2024

The passenger Alexandra Assance 31 years of Christian Island has been charged criminally with.

  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 28, 2024
