The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding motorists to slow down and exercise patience on local roadways following a recent stunt driving incident involving excessive speed.
On October 3rd 2026, at approximately 9:34 a.m., an officer conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 60, in the area of Ragged Falls Park Road in Algonquin Highlands Township, stopped a vehicle travelling 138 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old resident of Williamstown was charged with:
· Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive speed
The driver’s license was suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
Excessive speed significantly reduces a driver’s ability to react to changing road conditions, unexpected hazards, weather conditions, and other traffic on the roadway. Higher speeds also increase stopping distances and greatly increase the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a collision.
The Huntsville OPP is urging all motorists to obey posted speed limits, drive according to road and weather conditions, and help keep Ontario’s roads safe for everyone.
