The South Muskoka Hospital Foundation today announced the retirement of Executive Director Colin Miller. Mr. Miller will remain in his role until the end of this year while the Foundation seeks his successor.

The announcement caps a career in fundraising that spans almost four decades. Mr. Miller, who has been with the Foundation for 17 years, joined South Muskoka Hospital Foundation after serving senior executive roles at McGill University, University of Toronto, and Sunnybrook Hospital.

“There’s no doubt that this is going to be a tough goodbye for me, but the time has come for me to move on and pursue new interests,” said Mr. Miller.

His time with the SMMH Foundation will remain a source of personal pride. “I would say of all the places I’ve worked, this has been the most personally rewarding,” he says. “The hard work of the Foundation volunteers and the generosity of our community has made our Foundation’s success possible.”

Under Mr. Miller’s leadership, the Foundation has been able to make significant contributions to the hospital, including funding the purchase of cutting-edge diagnostic equipment, facility renovations, and providing staff and patient support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foundation Board Chair Jodie Evans knows Mr. Miller will leave big shoes to fill. “Colin’s decision to retire comes with mixed feelings:  while we are happy for him as he starts a new chapter in his life after tremendous dedication to the Foundation, he will be very much missed.  The Foundation can’t thank Colin enough for his leadership and commitment to building the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation,” she says. “Certainly, everyone at the foundation and the hospital wish Colin all the best in his retirement.”

For his part, Mr. Miller foresees continued success for the Foundation in the years to come. “I think going forward the opportunities are endless for this hospital foundation,” he says. “We’ve just touched the surface of the generosity in this community.”
