Big Sound MMA fighter Oleksandr Chernenko-Yermolaiev is representing Team Canada; trip sponsored by Lakeside Contracting & Property Management
A Parry Sound High School student who trains daily at Big Sound MMA has opened the WAKO Youth World Championships in Jesolo, Italy, with a win.
Oleksandr Chernenko-Yermolaiev is competing for Team Canada in the
Younger Juniors K-1 style division at under 75 kg. On Monday, Sept. 21, he
won his round-of-16 bout by decision over an opponent from Poland after
three rounds in what his coach described as a very close fight.
Chernenko-Yermolaiev moved to Canada from Ukraine and has trained with
Big Sound MMA owner and head coach Mitch Joiner for two years. He trains
morning and night, attending Parry Sound High School in between sessions.
“Oleksandr is very skilled and he works incredibly hard. Watching him represent Canada on a world stage is a proud moment for everyone at Big Sound MMA.” said Joiner.
Chernenko-Yermolaiev’s trip to the championships was sponsored by
Lakeside Contracting & Property Management, also owned by Mitch. His
mother travelled with him and the Team Canada delegation, while his coach
is following the competition from home.
He will compete next on September 22 vs Soos Levente of Hungary.
