Almaguin Highlands OPP Lay Over 100 Charges During Victoria Long Weekend

This Victoria Day long weekend, Almaguin Highlands OPP were patrolling the local towns and highways. Officers focused on aggressive driving, speeding, distracted driving and impaired operation and other Highway Traffic Act offences. As a result, over 125 Provincial Offence notices were issued, here is a break down of some of the tickets issued:

  • Approximately 86 charges for speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Four charges for perform stunt, contrary to the HTA
  • 10 charges for drivers not having insurance card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)
  • 10 failing to move over for emergency vehicle or tow truck, contrary to the HTA
  • One Liquor Licence Act charge (LLA)
  • One driver was charged with having no insurance, contrary to the CAIA
  • One for drive with cannabis readily available, contrary to the Cannabis Control Act 2017 (CCA2017)
  • One for drive commercial motor vehicle not equipped with working speed limiting system, contrary to the HTA
