On Thursday, March 24 at 11:53 p.m., North Bay OPP along with Nipissing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Callander Fire Department attended the scene of a single vehicle collision in the northbound lanes of Highway 11 just north of Hills Siding Road in the Town of Powassan.
Police said a northbound sedan left the roadway and rolled onto its roof in the ditch on the east side of the highway where it became fully engulfed in flames.
The coroner attended and the unidentified driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased will be released pending a post-mortem examination that is scheduled to take place in Toronto, Ontario at the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS) at a later date.
Highway 11 was closed for approximately eight hours while members of the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team investigated. The Highway was fully reopened at approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning.
