Three Christian Island Residents Escape Serious Injury In Single Vehicle Crash In Tiny Township

Three Christian Island residents escaped serious injury yesterday after the east bound Concession Road 12 of Tiny Township Jeep they were riding in crashed into the trees at the intersection of Overhead Bridge Road near 10:46 a.m. October 31, 2024.

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the OPP attended the scene along with Simcoe County Paramedics and Tiny Township Fire Service attended the scene and triaged two of the occupants and transported them to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.

An investigation into the crash was conducted and a on scene search resulted in the seizure of a quantity of drug paraphernalia leading into an impaired by drug investigation by the officers.

Charged in this investigation is the driver Martin Monague 55 years of Christian Island with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

And Further with the following Provincial Offences of

  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Careless driving causing bodily harm

And Further with the Offence

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused was further arrested on a outstanding warrant held by an western Canada police service in connection to an ongoing investigation in that jurisdiction.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

Devon Assance 30 years of Christian Island who was a passenger in the vehicle was arrested on outstanding warrants held by a neighbouring police service in connection to an ongoing investigation in that jurisdiction. The accused was released from OPP custody to the care and custody of the involved police service.

The third occupant in the vehicle, a 57 year old male was treated and released from hospital.
