A tragic overnight collision between two snowmobiles on the frozen waterway of the Lost Channel off Cain Lake has left one person dead, according to authorities from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The incident occurred late yesterday evening, prompting an urgent response from emergency services.
Emergency services from OPP, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services and Georgian Bay Township Fire Services responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:50 p.m
The collision resulted in the fatality of one of the drivers, identified as a 52-year-old male from Erin, Ontario. Despite exhaustive efforts by emergency medical services, the victim was pronounced dead at a nearby marina following a lengthy three-and-a-half-hour rescue operation through the rugged terrain.
The other driver involved, a 50-year-old male hailing from Puslinch, Ontario, emerged from the incident uninjured. He was located near the crash site by authorities.
Officers are being assisted by members of the OPP Central Region Technical Traffic Unit (TTCI) in the continuing investigation into the cause of the crash.
