This past week, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Grade 7 & 8 students travelled to local secondary schools to take part in an interactive kick-off presentation from Live Different, as part of the Board’s upcoming Social Entrepreneurship Pilot Project.
Live Different is a Canadian-based charity that empowers youth to change the world! They spoke to students from across the Board about the concept of altruism. During these sessions, presenters from Pakistan, Ukraine, and England encouraged our intermediates to consider the question: How can we be people who make a difference?
The overall goal is to help students realize that they can use their skills to positively impact their local community. Starting in semester two, participating Grade 7 & 8 classes will start connecting what they learn about the United Nations Global Goals to their geography and science curriculums, choose a goal they are passionate about, and then design their own pay-it-forward service-learning initiative to take local action on global issues.
TLDSB will be sharing more information as these classes begin their journey so stay tuned for more information, or follow TLDSB Pathways on Twitter at @TLDSB_Pathways, on Facebook at Facebook.com/tldsb.pathways.9, or on Instagram at @tldsbpathways.
