City staff were authorized to enter into a temporary rental refrigeration equipment agreement to support reinstating the ice surfaces at Rotary Place. Originally, the anticipated timeline indicated the blue pad ice surface would be available to user groups and the public the first week of January 2023 and the green pad ice surface by mid-January 2023. Staff have endeavoured to accelerate the timing to reinstate the ice surfaces as much as possible since receiving approval.
Based on progress to date and anticipated timing, the blue pad ice surface will have limited booking availability to user groups on Dec. 28, 29 and 30, 2022. Ice user groups will be contacted directly with this information. Provided no unforeseen circumstances arise, both the green ice pad and blue ice pad surfaces will be fully open and available to user groups and the public as of Jan. 2, 2023.
The current schedule for ice at Brian Orser Arena will remain in place until Jan. 1, 2023. Access information regarding available drop-in ice activities, including holiday public skates, at orillia.ca/active.
