An area resident has been arrested by members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP in connection to a series of criminal incidents within the Town of Penetanguishene during the weekend of February 11-14, 2023.
On February 11, 2023 at 11:25 p.m. a Hewson Street resident contacted the OPP Communication Centre after an individual was attempting to unlawfully enter a vehicle on the property.
On February 13, 2023 the owner of a Main Street restaurant reported that the business was the victim of an overnight break and enter occurrence resulting in the loss of a cash box and a quantity of cash.
Through investigation of these incidents a suspect was identified and later located and arrested at 3:35 a.m. February 14, 2023 on Church Street allegedly in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine and also for outstanding judicial processes.
Charged is Matthew Cascanette, 23 years of Penetanguishene, with the following criminal offences.
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (two counts)
- Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
- Possession Break In Instruments
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
- Resist Peace Officer
- Mischief – destroys or damages property
And Further with
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance
The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date on these charges.
