The Township of Muskoka Lakes’ Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Derrick Hammond, announced that he will be retiring this summer.
The majority of CAO Hammond’s thirty-four year career in municipal government, he spent time at the District Municipality of Muskoka, the Township of Lake of Bays, the Town of Huntsville, and finished his career with the Township of Muskoka Lakes.
“CAO Hammond has shown exemplary leadership amongst both staff and Council while in his role,” said Mayor Peter Kelley. “During his tenure in Muskoka Lakes, he has consistently spoken truth to power, and helped to build a strong foundation that will guide future decisions for years to come.”
“I want to thank Council for its leadership as well as its support for Township staff, who exemplify professionalism, resilience and dedication to public service every day,” said CAO Derrick Hammond. “I know Muskoka Lakes will continue to be well served going forward.”
While in his role in Muskoka Lakes, CAO Hammond enshrined strategic thinking and continuous improvement into the way the Township conducts its business. Under CAO Hammond’s leadership over the past 5 years, a strong foundation has been built to enable Council to achieve its objective of modernizing the corporation.
Over the coming months, Mayor Kelley will work with Council and Human Resources to begin recruitment for the Township’s next CAO.
