Male Charged Again, This Time For Numerous Property Related Incidents


Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment have responded to numerous property related incidents of late in the Midland and Penetanguishene area. The following incidents were investigated and through investigation a suspect was identified.

On April 5, 2024 officers attended a Poyntz Street, Penetanguishene residence to investigate a theft of a wallet from an unlocked vehicle. On April 13, 2024 officers investigated the theft of a unlocked vehicle with the keys in it from an Edward Street, Penetanguishene residence followed by a break and enter to a Harriet Street, Penetanguishene residence. Another investigation was conducted on April 23, 2024 at a Harriet Street, Penetanguishene residence where an unlocked vehicle was entered and a wallet was removed containing a series of credit and debit cards which were later used throughout the town at various retail stores. On May 23, 2024 officers attended a King Street, Midland retail store to investigate a shoplifting incident and further another retail store theft on May 30, 2024 after which investigators observed the suspect in a vehicle in the drive through of a Simcoe County Road 93 restaurant.

Officers were able to stop and identify the occupants of the vehicle and arrested Jonathan Sylvester 35 yrs of no fixed address Midland on arrest warrants for the following offences.

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (eight counts)
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Break, Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Use of Credit Card
  • Possession of a credit card
  • Theft Under $5000

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.
