On April 30th 2024 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Provincial Police Academy, the OPP Crime Prevention and Community Support Bureau along with Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, City of Orillia and Orchard Park Public School hosted a bike rodeo.
This bike rodeo in particular is spear headed by the Simcoe “On the move” initiative.
“A key goal for the On the Move initiative is to help children obtain the daily physical activity they need to be healthy by using active forms of transportation for all or part of their school journey (i.e. walking, cycling, skateboarding, rollerblading, and scooting). On the Move can also help to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality and safety in school zones as well as provide other benefits to students and school communities.”

This bike rodeo teaches kids how to use hand signals, proper use of safety equipment and learn basic riding skills. Kids get the opportunity to learn, practice and hone their skills with the assistance of knowledgeable instructors/mentors. The rodeo was a huge success attended by several student from Orchard Park Public School.
