As a reserve division in the Royal Canadian Navy, HMCS York could be tasked as a part of Op LENTUS to provide support in natural disaster situations such as floods, forest fires, ice storms or hurricanes.

The objectives of Op LENTUS are to assist provincial and territorial authorities, respond quickly and effectively to the crisis, and to stabilize the natural disaster situation.
To provide effective support, it is imperative that our sailors and divers maintain their small boat handling and search and rescue skills and conduct reconnaissance exercises outside of their standard area of operations to improve situational awareness and maximize time on station.

Working with interdepartmental agencies like 424 Squadron is vital to ensuring operational
readiness for Canadian Armed Forces members.
