Driver Charged With Impaired After Collision On Hwy. 11 In Oro-Medonte

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male with impaired operation related charges.

On October 31, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers of the Orillia OPP detachment received reports of a three-vehicle collision on Highway 11 N, at Line 9 in Oro-Medonte Township. Officers attended the area and located lots of debris, vehicles blocking the highway and extensive guardrail damage. This caused one northbound lane to be closed for several hours. Luckily, no injuries have been reported as a result of this collision.
Officers continued to investigate the collision, speaking with involved drivers. Upon speaking with a male driver, he was displaying numerous signs of alcohol consumption.

As a result, Alexander Broadhead, 34-year-old of the City of Orillia, has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while impaired- alcohol
· Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available
· Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
· Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

The Orillia OPP reminds motorist to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, rideshare, public transit or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements. In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others.
