Police arrest fleeing driver after collision and assault.
On June 6, 2023, at 8 a.m., members from the West Parry Sound OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Bell Lake Road and Highway 124 in McDougall Township. The driver assaulted a witness to the collision and fled the scene on foot. Police engaged in a short foot chase before arresting the driver.
As a result of further investigation, Alexander Thompson, 32 years-of-age of Parry Sound was charged with:
- Assault
- Assault a peace officer
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Fail to remain
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on June 29, 2023. The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
