Working smoke alarms allowed a family to escape a cottage fire on Acton Island Road early Saturday morning.
The Muskoka Lakes Fire Department responded at 4 a.m. with six trucks and firefighters from four stations. When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the main structure and were able to save the other structures on the property.
There were no injuries reported and damage is estimated at $3,000,000. The fire department says the cause of the fire is not known at this time and crews were on scene until 9:30 a.m.
