Cyber Harassment Investigation By OPP At Midland Area Secondary School Completed

A seven month long cyber based investigation into the alleged harassment of over 21 students at a Midland Secondary School through social media has been concluded.

In March of 2022, numerous students at the school became victims of harassment on a public social media platform that resulted in disruption of their school and social/home life. School officials contacted Southern Georgian Bay OPP to report the incidents, which were then investigated by the OPP Community Service Officer who works collaboratively within the school.

As a result of this in depth cyber investigation, a 16 year old male of Peel Region was identified and diverted to the Associated Youth Services of Peel in partnership with the Elizabeth Fry Society of Simcoe-Muskoka for the following offences of:

  • Harassing Communications
  • Unauthorized Use of Computer -obtain computer service
  • Defamation known to be false
