Behind the walls of Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care lies more than a century of stories about care, community and change. On Sept. 13, the public will have the chance to step inside those walls as Waypoint takes part in Doors Open Ontario, offering free guided tours, historic artifacts and a glimpse into 125-plus years of mental health care history.

Guests will discover:

  • a curated exhibit of artifacts tracing the evolution of mental health care in the region;
  • guided walking tours of the grounds and heritage buildings, including the iconic Administration Building and cupola;
  • stories that bring to life the people, history and milestones that shaped Waypoint and Penetanguishene.

“Waypoint’s history is deeply connected to the people we serve and the partnerships we’ve built across the community,” said Ryan Cole, Director of Hospital Services. “Doors Open is a special opportunity to share that history in a way that is engaging, welcoming and meaningful for everyone.”

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is free and open to all ages. Waypoint is also looking for volunteers to support the day as greeters and tour guides. No experience is required — orientation and key messages will be provided.
