The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a structure fire in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshall (OFM).
On May 9th, 2024, at about 3:56 p.m., Orillia Fire, Orillia OPP and Simcoe County Paramedics responded to reports of a structure fire on Westmount Dr South. The address has multiple units. Orilla Fire were able to get the fire under control and make entry into the unit, bringing one individual out and immediately provided first aid before transferring care to Paramedics. Sadly a pet was found deceased as a result of the fire. The Orillia OPP Major Crime Unit along with the OFM are still investigating the incident. The individual that was brought out of the unit by firefighters was transported to an Orillia hospital and is in stable condition.
