Washago resident Keith Weldon is the winner of the Soldiers’ 50/50 jackpot for March, taking home $28,162.

“Wow, that’s one way to start the weekend,” Weldon said once he learned the news of his win.

“That’s phenomenal!” Weldon and his wife, Liza, moved from Hamilton to Washago in 2019. They chose to buy Soldiers’ 50/50 tickets this month to support their community hospital, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

“The raffle always goes to a good cause; and the more support we can give to the hospital and the town is always welcome,” Weldon said. “It’s a nice benefit and you never know what’s going to happen.”

Though he and his family have supported Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in the past, March’s Soldiers’ 50/50 draw was the first draw Keith had purchased tickets for.

“You hope to win but never expect to win,” said Weldon, still in shock over the jackpot win. “Yeah, I’m really just kind of buying a daydream for a little.”

The Weldon family will continue to live out their daydreams in the most magical way possible; they will be taking their young son to Walt Disney World later this month.  This most recent grand prize is one Soldiers’ 50/50’s largest prizes to date. With more than $500,000 given out in prizes, the raffle continues to build momentum thanks to the support of our community.

The April Soldiers’ 50/50 raffle is already underway, and the first Early Bird draw is this Thursday, April 6, for $1,000. Subsequent Early Bird draws will take place on April 13 and 20, and the Grand Prize draw will take place on April 28. With a guaranteed pot of $5,000 and ticket bundles starting at just $10, it’s a fun way to support your local hospital and gives you the chance to win big.
Soldiers’ 50/50 raffle is managed by the Soldiers’ Foundation and works to generate funding for areas of emerging need within Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
