Vehicle Thefts Spark Series Of Investigations In Southern Georgian Bay

A string of vehicle thefts on Thanksgiving weekend has triggered a wide-ranging investigation by the Huronia West and Southern Georgian Bay detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), according to a press release.

The incidents began on October 11 when a Honda Odyssey was taken from a business parking lot on Fuller Avenue in Penetanguishene. Surveillance footage from the scene helped police identify a suspect. Just hours later, a Sierra pickup truck was stolen from a residence in nearby Clearview Township, later involved in a hit-and-run crash.

The suspect returned to the Penetanguishene business the next morning in the stolen pickup truck but fled in a dangerous manner when confronted.

The accused, Christopher James Tricco, 33, was apprehended later in Wasaga Beach. He faces multiple charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Police are requesting anyone with knowledge of drug or property-related investigations to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, opp.southern.georgian.bay@opp.ca or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
