Melanoma Canada is thrilled to announce the return of 7 Summits Snowshoe Challenge for Skin Cancer. The annual winter event, now in its third year, and began February 1st 2024, challenging fundraisers to embark on an epic winter mission.

This groundbreaking winter initiative, presented by Neutrogena, encompasses two exciting components aimed at raising funds, spreading awareness, and championing the need for winter sun safety to prevent skin cancer.

1. Virtual Summit Expedition:
Throughout the entire month of February, participants are invited to embark on a virtual snowshoe expedition, covering 43.29 KM—equivalent to conquering the world’s seven tallest summits. Individuals can register online at 7summits.ca, choosing to tackle the challenge individually or as part of a team. The earlier you register, the more you save (maximum registration fee $45)! Engage with a supportive community through interactive elements on the Strava fitness app, seamlessly integrated into the 7 Summits Snowshoe Challenge website.

2. In-Person Snowshoe, Sip & Savour:
The pinnacle of the event unfolds on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the enchanting Hardwood Ski and Bike, just a stone’s throw from Toronto where qualified participants and ticket purchasers can join us to finish the final 5KM of the Challenge. The day features sponsor activations, a winter comfort breakfast from Burnbrae Farms, food and drink stations featuring celebrity chefs Massimo Capra, Lynn Crawford, Christian Pritchard and Darrin Biggdog Caerels, live entertainment, activities for the whole family, and the exhilarating in-person Snowshoe Challenge. A ticket for the in-person event can be purchased online for $250, or any virtual participant who fundraises $250 is invited to attend. Snowshoe rentals
will be available for those seeking to embrace the snowy terrain.

No snow? No problem! This challenge is about being active in the winter while being sun safe. Run, bike, skate, or walk the combined total of the world’s 7 tallest summits. That’s 43.29KM or as many kilometers as you can.
Melanoma Canada ensures a rewarding experience for participants, offering badges for each summit conquered and exciting prizes, including neck buffs, Tubbs Holster Snowshoe Backpack, hoodies and more, for achieving fundraising milestones. Falyn Katz, CEO of Melanoma Canada, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We eagerly anticipate uniting with our supporters virtually and in person for this unique winter event.

Our goal is to educate Canadians on the importance of year-round sun safety. Many are unaware that snow can reflect up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays, and combined with higher altitudes, winter sun exposure can be as harmful or even more harmful than it is in the summer.”

Melanoma and skin cancers are on the rise, especially among young Canadians aged 15-29. Preventable and easily detectable, early detection is crucial to improving patient outcomes. With the support of presenting sponsor Neutrogena, participants, and the media, 7 Summits Snowshoe Challenge for Skin Cancer aims to raise awareness and contribute to saving lives.

As of now, individuals who are interested can sign up to receive the free/discounted Early Bird registration rates. For more information and to register, please visit 7summits.ca.
