Sea Doo Operator Charged With Impaired After Collision In Oro-Medonte

Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a serious marine collision involving a sea doo and a vessel secured to a dock in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

On June 2, 2023, around 5:30 p.m., Orillia OPP, Simcoe County Paramedic Service and Township of Oro-Medonte Fire, were dispatched to a residence on Lakeshore Road West for a serious Marine collision.

One driver of a sea doo vessel was transported by Ornge to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The Orillia OPP entered an impaired operation investigation, and a second sea doo operator has been charged. The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team attended the collision scene to assist with the investigation. There was a high police presence on Lakeshore Road West.

As a result, Michael Pelekis, 60 years-old, of Keswick, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – 80 plus
