Orillia OPP Remove Several Drivers From Roadways

Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to investigate traffic-related incidents through proactive enforcement and complaints from members of the public, resulting in numerous charges being laid over several days.

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, around 6:20 a.m., officers of the Orillia OPP Detachment were dispatched to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 400 Northbound near Horseshoe Valley Road in Oro-Medonte Township. Upon arrival, officers entered into an impaired operation investigation, with one party being transported back to the Orillia Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old male of Deep River is facing the following charges under the Highway Traffic Act: The name of the accused was not released.

–      Young driver – B.A.C. above zero

–      Novice driver – B.A.C above zero

–      Careless driving

–      Drive motor vehicle in contravention of conditions

The accused had their licence suspended for 7 days in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia at a later date.

On Tuesday, September 29, just after 3:00 p.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Old Barrie Road West near Line 1 North in Oro-Medonte Township when they observed a motor vehicle travelling at a notably high rate of speed. The vehicle was found to be travelling at 133 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr Community Safety Zone.

A 48-year-old male from Barrie is facing the following charges under the Highway Traffic Act:

–      Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed – Community Zone

–      Speeding – community safety zone

As a result, their vehicle has been impounded for 14 days, their licence suspended for 30 days, and the driver is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia at a later date.

On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 8:00 p.m., officers of the Orillia OPP Detachment responded to a traffic complaint called in by a member of the public on Highway 11 Southbound near Coldwater Road in the City of Orillia. Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle continued southbound, where it was observed again and officers were able to safely stop the vehicle in Oro-Medonte Township. Speaking with the driver, officers entered into an impaired operation investigation, and the driver was transported to the Orillia Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Samantha Burton, 37-year-old of Emsdale, is facing the following charges:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs

–      Fail to stop for police

The accused was released from custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia at a later date. Additionally, their driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for 7 days.
